Civil Traffic Department
The Clerk of Courts Traffic Division is located in the Highlands County Courthouse, Room 3, at 430 South Commerce Avenue in downtown Sebring, Florida. The Traffic Division can be reached by phone at 863/402-6604 or by mail at 590 South Commerce Avenue, Sebring, Fl., 33870.

The Civil Traffic Department assists the State of Florida, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and local law enforcement agencies in maintaining records relating to all non-criminal traffic offenses and their dispositions in Highlands County, Florida.

Important Information!
Pursuant to Florida Statute 318.14(4) you have thirty (30) calendar days from the issue date of your infraction to comply with one of the following disposition options. Failure to comply within the time allowed shall result in the suspension of your driver’s license. Please note: We DO NOT honor postmark dates. Carefully read the following before selecting your option. You may also pay your fine with a credit/debit card or elect to attend a Driver Improvement Course (if eligible) and pay the fine amount within thirty (30) calendar days by going online: Our new PayChoice payment portal is available! Option One – Pay fine only

Pay the required fine for your infraction refer to the fee schedule. Points will be assessed to your driving record as well as the reflection of a guilty conviction. Payment must be received by the Clerk within thirty (30) calendar days from the date the infraction was issued. Include check or money order with a copy of the citation and mail to address provided at bottom of this page.

An extension of time to pay the fine is at the sole discretion of the County Judge. An extension request form must be filed at the Clerk of Courts, Traffic Division before the payment due date. It is your responsibility to contact the Clerk’s office to verify whether a request for extension of time to pay fine has been granted or denied.
Option Two – Civil Infraction Hearing

If you wish to contest an infraction, a written request must be submitted to the Clerk of Courts. A civil infraction hearing request form must be completed by you and received by the Clerk’s office within thirty (30) calendar days from the issue date of your infraction. The form may be filed in person or mail to address provided at bottom of this page.:

By choosing this option you are waiving your right to elect driving school. After your request has been filed with the Clerk’s office, a notice to appear will be mailed to you, along with a civil infraction information sheet, to the mailing address you provide.
Option Three – Elect Traffic School*

Pay the required fine for your infraction refer to the fee schedule and submit your school election in writing option form for traffic citations. Please read carefully through the option form. If this option is completed, points will not be assessed to your driving record and a guilty conviction will not be reflected. Within thirty (30) calendar days from the issue date of your infraction submit check or money order, written school election, and a copy of your infraction; mail to address provided at bottom of this page.

Within ninety (90) days of the submission of your payment and school election, you must provide proof of your driving school completion to the Clerk. Failure to complete all the requirements of this option will result in the suspension of your driver’s license, additional fees, and points will be assessed to your driving record.

This option is available if you:
  1. Have NOT made an election within the past twelve (12) months or more than five times in a lifetime.
  2. Are making this election within thirty(30) calendar days of the issue date of your infraction.
  3. Have NOT been charged with a driver license, registration, or insurance violation.
  4. Do NOT have a commercial driver license (CDL).
Important
Driving schools are private businesses. The fee that is charged for driving school is not included in the amount you pay for your infraction. In addition, the Clerk cannot refer you to any particular traffic school. Listings of traffic schools in your area may be found under the
listing “Driving Instruction” in your local yellow pages. However, you may attend any driver improvement course approved by the State of Florida in any county in Florida. Warning
Failure to exercise one of the options shown to satisfy your traffic violation will result in a report for suspension of your driver’s license to The Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles (DMV); additional court costs, fines and late fees assessed to your case. Driving Records
Florida driver’s license records may be purchased at our offices. A Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification (ID) number must be provided to the Clerk in order to obtain a driving record. The cost for a three (3) year driving record is $14.25 and $16.25 for a lifetime driving record.
